ITERATIONS

USABILITY TESTING

The flows tested were:

  • Adding a Task to an event via the Task Manager

  • Sending a group message to the event planner and vendor

  • Adding an Expense to the Budget Tracker

Usability Test Results:

  • Users were able to add a task to an event via the Task Manager

  • Users were able to send a group message to the event planner and vendor

  • Users were able to easily add an expense to the Budget Tracker

Pain points for iterations:

  • A few of the users couldn't easily understand the pop-up message used to approve or deny a choice sent by another party.

I tested my wireframes with 2 of the original users who were current esthetics students as well as 3 current esthetics instructors.

I felt that having a more diverse test group would give a different insight into the application. The esthetics instructors offered insight into the type of questions answered and how they've seen other students successfully pass state board exams.

Iterations made included:

  • Creating a more user friendly version of the pop-up message used to approve or deny a choice sent by another party.

BRANDING

WIREFRAMES

PROTOTYPE

I started with how I wanted the application to feel and what color story and typography would give the best user experience. I then created a mood board to give stakeholders a true feel for the design of the application.

I started with a very basic layout for my low fidelity wireframes. I laid out the flows to be as stress free as possible.

Adding in the current brand standards to the application, you can see the high fidelity wireframes come to life.

Lastly, I put together the final prototype for usability testing. I wanted to test multiple different flows including navigating the task manager, messages section, and budget tracker.

Users can create tasks that need to be completed prior to an event and mark them as complete or in progress.

TASK MANAGER

MESSAGES

BUDGET TRACKER

Users can message in group threaded messaging to multiple parties simultaneously. Users can also approve or deny choices sent by other users.

Users can add expenses to the budget tracker to make sure they are staying on budget.

Next up, all things design

I was having a conversation with a friend who happens to be a wedding photographer and event planner. She mentioned that keeping track of messages and tasks has been a struggle. That got me thinking of a way to help mitigate those frustrations.

WHY?

USER RESEARCH

THE PERSONA

I started with interviewing 5 users who have experience with planning events, including event planners, and a wedding photographer.

  1. How often is loss of revenue related to a specific logistics issue?

  2. Is there a loss of continued or repeat business because of this issue?

  3. Have event planners had to come up with fixes for logistics issues on the fly/day of the event?

  • Users noted that losing revenue due to logistic issues is a major concern.

  • Users stated that there have been some instances of business loss due to logistics issues.

  • Users noted that they had to come up a quick fix day of when logistical issues arose.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

I conducted a competitive analysis of other event planning tools. I wanted to know what other tools contain and how effective they are for event planning.

TASK FLOWS

I started brainstorming ideas that would best suit a user like Alyssa. I asked myself which features would make it to the top of this list and be the most efficient for the overall user experience.

USER FLOWS

Next, I wanted to see how users would be walking through the application, I added flows for creating an account, logging in, sending + approve/deny messages, and the task manager.

Now, onto the fix…
