USABILITY TESTING
The flows tested were:
Create an account and login
Navigate through the Dashboard
Navigating the Study section
Navigating the Test section
Usability Test Results:
Users were able to create an account and login
Users were able to easily navigate through the Dashboard
Users reported having a few issues navigating the Study section
Users were able to naviagte the Test section
Pain points for iterations:
1 of 5 users had a bit of an issue with having the drop down menu for chapter selection.
Users requested a pop-up positive reinforcement message
I tested my wireframes with 2 of the original users who were current esthetics students as well as 3 current esthetics instructors.
I felt that having a more diverse test group would give a different insight into the application. The esthetics instructors offered insight into the type of questions answered and how they've seen other students successfully pass state board exams.
Iterations made included:
Creating a positive reinforcement message when questions are answered successfully
Removed the chapter selection drop-down menu as it was redundant and causing pain points for users

BRANDING
WIREFRAMES
PROTOTYPE
Taking into consideration that I am working with an existing company, I utilized the current brand standards set forth by Lash + Company Education. I then created a mood board to give stakeholders a true feel for the design of the application.
I started with a very basic layout for my low fidelity wireframes. I laid out the flows to be as stress free as possible.
Adding in the current brand standards to the application, you can see the high fidelity wireframes come to life.
Lastly, I put together the final prototype for usability testing. I wanted to test multiple different flows including navigating the dashboard, the study page, the test page, as well as the practice videos.

Users can login to their dashboard and track their progress.

PRACTICE
Users can choose which chapter as well as how they would like to study. Either with flashcards or multiple choice questions.
Users can take the built-in practice tests designed to help them prepare for the theory portion of their state boards.
Users can watch + follow along with videos designed to prepare them for the practical portion of their boards.
Next up, all things design
While working as an esthetics educator, I noticed that my students were having a difficult time feeling fully prepared to take their state board licensing exams.
WHY?
USER RESEARCH
THE PERSONA
I started with interviewing my current students to see where their pain points were and what could be a potential fix.
On a scale from 1-10, with 1 being not at all and 10 being very, how prepared do you feel to take the state board exam?
What features do you like in your current learning materials?
What, if anything, do you feel is missing from the learning materials you’re provided when it comes to studying?
INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:
KEY INSIGHTS:
Esthetician
Exam Prep 2024
Quizlet
Quizgecko
Users noted that they mostly felt unprepared to take their state board exams
Users felt that the use of flashcards and multiple choice quizzes were the most effective ways to study
Users felt that they needed another form of study material to use outside the classroom.

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
I conducted a competitive analysis of other exam prep applications on the market and discovered that they were lacking in cohesiveness and completeness in regards to the material needed for state boards.

USER FLOWS
Next, I wanted to see how users would be walking through the application, which is when I created the user flows.
